If you haven’t heard of this one, chances are that you’ve never enjoyed a curry in Scotland - this dish is sweeping across the Highlands.
It’s very similar to chicken tikka masala - both dishes are mild and creamy. But chasni has a unique sweet and sour flavour similar to a Chinese dish, due to the added mango chutney, tomato ketchup (yes, that’s right), lemon juice and mint. It’s growing in popularity, so it’s only a matter of time before you start seeing it in more Indian restaurants across the UK.

I wondered why I couldn’t find it since I moved down to England.
It outsells chicken tikka masala 10 to 1 in Glasgow.
I’ve seen evidence of its migration as far as Edinburgh.
Tremendous dish.. even tried cooking it myself.
Chasni is King!
Hi Al,
Thanks for your comment. This is exactly why we are encouraging restaurants to start introducing it down south….hopefully it shouldn’t be long before we will be seeing it ALL over the UK.
We get it in several restaurants in Dundee and I liken it as a cross between a Tikka Masala and a Pathia, would love to know what recipe you used Al.
I first had this at the Raj Poot in Bath and it was fantastic so I had it again in the New Year. I’ll be having it in three weeks at my leaving do there too!! Hadn’t heard of it before then. Great dish.
