Dansak

descriptions

A traditional Parsee (Persian) dish, full of flavours and different textures. Best enjoyed with nan or pilau rice. Menus usually describe this dish as “hot, sweet and sour” because of the chilli powder, brown sugar, and lemon juices. The word dhansak relates to two different words: “dhan” which refers to the Dhal (lentils) being used, and “sak” which relates to the green and starchy vegetables used in the dish - although most restaurants don’t tend to use vegetables unless it’s a vegetable dhansak. Some restaurants use pineapple instead of sugar to give the dish sweetness.
